Diet Breakthrough With Keto

I’m going to be honest with you. Since I hit my 30s, maintaining a respectable weight has became more and more difficult. I’m not massive or anything, but keeping the gut off is tough. For instance if I go on a weekend bender of drinking alcohol and eating, I can easily put on 8 to 10 pounds. It’s water weight and can come off relatively quick, but still. Until recently when I’ve had a diet breakthrough with keto.

So I have figured out a way to battle with this. It’s the ketogenic diet. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s very similar to the atkins diet. You eat high fat, low carb. A lot of chicken wings, steak, salad, non-starchy veggies, etc. Basically anything with low carbs and the higher the calories the better. There are a lot of myths about keto. People say it’s bad for your cholesterol or bad for your blood pressure. When I started out I had pre-hypertension. That basically means I was over 120/80. Since starting keto, I am now under these numbers. Obviously all situations are different, so consult with your doctor if you are changing your diet, but by and large the ketogenic diet is very beneficial for your health in all aspects.

For some people a diet like this won’t work. For me it is perfect. I love to eat a lot of steak, chicken wings and pork. I can do without fries, bread, rice, etc. for extended periods of time. Obviously everyone misses pizza when they go without it for a long time, but overall I have more success with this style of diet than any other diet.

Why not try it? For some people it works magically. I have a friend who is down 50 pounds in just three months.

Beware though, once you have some success on this diet you will be faced with “keto envy.” Keto envy is when people start saying things like “you know that diet is bad for you long term, right?” Or “You know you will gain back twice as much weight when you stop, right?”

If it works for you, great. Hopefully you have as much success with it as I have had so far. If not, then fine move along and try something else. Maybe you absolutely cannot live without spaghetti. But I highly recommend at least giving it a try.
